This topic may not seem of interest to younger members of this forum. I suggest it is of interest to all who are “the many”. If you are of “the few” read no further you're covered by the system.

I am supposed to retire. Others (The few) tell me I must retire for a variety of reason. I am sure most of you know them all. But do I need to retire?

I am; fit, inside my BMI range for average white male, have no medical issues, don’t need to wear glasses for driving, capable of holding down senior management level positions in aviation safety (My field), love to write, have a wonderful partner and other love relationships, travel for a living, so why retire?

I have “retired” twice before. Once voluntarily and once compulsorily. Voluntarily I received staff benefits as a retired employee which I seldom use as I can find cheaper alternatives in the market and the second time there were no retirement benefits at all. Zip.

To me retirement simply meant changing direction to a new passion, new dream and new lifestyle wherever that may be on this planet.

So I got to thinking what is this concept called retirement?

I recently returned to New Zealand, one of my countries of citizenship and as fate would have it I ended up in Tauranga a beautiful city in the Bay of Plenty. The city is so beautiful that is becoming the retirement city of choice for New Zealanders. It is growing fast. New retirement villages, mobility van/bus services, kneeling buses, even traffic jams on the footpath (Mobility scooters) leading to supermarkets and factory warehouses.

In the NZ as in other OECD country’s political arena(s) there is much debate and discussion about the coming baby boomer retirement numbers and how the younger generation(s) will be able to pay retirement entitlements to the elderly who “damn it” are living longer and healthier.

NZ has a universal superannuation scheme (Pension) for all New Zealanders over 65 years of age (Kiwi Super). This world leading pension scheme stared after the Great Depression in the 1930’s by a Labour (Democrat) party is still funded out of the current annual government tax revenue budget (5%) and pays everyone who qualifies 66% of the average weekly wage (Use to be 80%).

I am already 3 years in non-payment of my Kiwi Super because I unknowingly left NZ for a number of years to live and work overseas. While I was away the 2001 NZ Government retrospectively passed legislation that effectively disenfranchised/discriminated all people like me based on age, because I was over 50 years of age when I left NZ (52).

To re-qualify for Kiwi Super we expat NZers must return and reside in NZ for an aggregated period of 5 year. For example I am nearly 69 so I will not qualify until I am nearly 72 years of age even though the retirement age is currently 65! I am petitioning the current government to remove this re-qualify clause and extend grandfather rights to all those affected by the 50 age rule.
So perhaps you can see why I started thinking again about the idea of retirement.
A couple of decades ago I started thinking about how I would like to end my life as I was in my fifties and that’s what others (The few) told me I should do. No not suicide or euthanasia, how I would like to gracefully and with dignity and perhaps even a flourish depart this mortal coil.

At that time I worked out that if I followed the popular economic saving model I would need to have access to approximately three million dollars. Or I would need to be able to control a passive income source that at the very least matched the average wage of the country I was resident in. At that time I was a fiscal nomad but planned to “retire” in NZ.

I plumped for the latter option. I could afford a small to medium sized business that would give me a cash flow to meet my retirement expectations. About 10 years later I changed that expectation to making passive income from home via my computer and the internet (Writing) my sole source of income.
But in my gut I was uneasy with the system model for retirement. I felt I would really rather do whatever it took to feed myself and my love ones, continue being economically, socially, charitably and lovingly independent, until I passed of my own choosing.

I have always maintained my own wellness. Barring accidents I have protected my immune system from unhealthy inputs, maintained a healthy BMI and boosted my immune system with Vitamin C. I get plenty of exercise both physical and mental and meditate for relaxation and philosophical/spiritual pursuits. I have eliminated most distress and kept my eustress. As a system GP/MD might say. “You have been lucky.” Sorry Doc luck has had little to do with it. Choices have had the most to do with it.

So what about retirement the idea?

Let me start with a simple definition:

“Retirement is the point where a person stops employment completely. A person may also semi-retire by reducing work hours.” Wikipedia.

A quick research effort first shows me that retirement as a concept, at least in OECD member states is widely accepted as a “norm.” I Google “retirement” and I get pages and pages of; how to retire, what to do in retirement, when to retire, how to plan for retirement, etc., and very little about why I should retire?
So I dig a little deeper.

For a slightly humorous and informative article on retirement history I found single page “History of Retirement, From Early Man to A.A.R.P.” By MARY-LOU WEISMAN at:
http://www.nytimes.com/1999/03/21/jobs/the-history-of-retirement-from-early-man-to-aarp.html
Most modern labour historians agree that the idea of retirement from the workforce grew out of need to provide industrial revolution “workers” with a reward for years of hard work. This idea probably started in 1883 when Chancellor Otto Von Bismarck of Germany had a problem. Marxists were threatening to take control of Europe. To help his countrymen resist their blandishments, Bismarck announced that he would pay a pension to any non-working German over age 65. Bismarck was no dummy. Hardly anyone lived to be 65 at the time, given that penicillin would not be available for another half century. Bismarck not only co-opted the Marxists, but set the arbitrary world standard for the exact year at which old age begins and established the precedent that government should pay people for growing old. (Mary –Lou Wiseman).

Even Chancellor Otto Von Bismarck of Germany had an ulterior motive for the idea of retirement as a reward for worker loyalty. It seems the idea of retirement as a model for “the many” by “the few” caught on politically. The argument initially centred on first what to do with the many old people living longer and unable to do industrial revolution work at a high enough productive level and second the financial cost of supporting these older workers.

This is a natural outcome of a system “for profit” rather than a system “for humanity.”

The “few” Having created a socio/economic need for retirement left the government “few” of OECD countries and others to provide for retirement incomes for the “retired worker.” The capitalist consumer market would find “innovative” ways for retirees to gain additional income give them things to do to take their minds off the fact that in reality they were waiting to die.

The “leisure retirement” concept grew out of a brilliant marketing campaign by Del Webb. In 1960, Del Webb launched an innovative plan – to create a separate retirement community offering fun in the sun for older adults. Sun City was billed as a place to live out the “Golden Years” in style. Webb touched a nerve with a population that was floundering with an identity crisis. A generation with a strong work ethic suddenly found itself struggling with identity and self-worth. In 1949, labour leader Walter Reuther coined the term “too old to work, too young to die,” powerfully capturing the sentiment. Webb offered an alternative image to the bleak view of retirement of the day. Even Webb was surprised by the enormous response to his retirement community concept, attracting 100,000 people in the first weekend.

The idea of retirement caught on like wildfire in a brush zone. Retirement was linked with important life changes; a retired worker might move to a new location, for example a retirement community, thereby having less frequent contact with their previous social context and adopting a new lifestyle. Often retirees volunteer for charities and other community organizations. Tourism is a common marker of retirement and for some becomes a way of life, such as for so-called grey nomads.

The reality today, at least in OECD countries including New Zealand & America is that retirees have six lifestyle choices as they age:
1. Continue to work full-time.
2. Continuing to work part-time.
3. Retire from work and become engaged in a variety of leisure activities.
4. Retire from work and become involved in a variety of recreational and leisure activities.
5. Retire from work and later return to work part-time.
6. Retire from work and later return to work full-time.
An important note to make from these lifestyle definitions are that four of the six involve working.

I guess I will be working until I am passed usefulness to this “for profit” society or I am dead.

I like the second option better.

Disclaimer:
1. Mileage may vary.
2. I am responsible for what I write I am not responsible for how it is understood.

© Copyright Geoff Ogilvie 2013

I dreamed that I was dreaming myself.
Or was it that I dreamed that someone was dreaming me?
I do not remember. But when I awoke I knew that because of the dream, a dream for which I had not asked, my whole life could from this day be on different.
It was as if I had awakened because I had dreamed that I was dreaming. This puzzled me, since up to this moment I had always thought that it was I who was dreaming my dreams. But now I had also to face that I might well be being dreamed by some other being of which I knew nothing. This frightened me. Was I not in control of my own life? Was I not an adult who had taken charge of my life who had taken charge of my life and my actions? Or was I still somebody’s child, to be manipulated and directed with little to say of my own?
Perhaps I was most afraid because, if it were' true that somebody or something was dreaming me, I would have to find out who or what that being was to relate to it. I would won’t to do this because I would want choice in the matter of what was really going on in my life.
Perhaps I did not want to be dreamed? But, also, did I have control in the matter? Perhaps my only freedom was in how I related to what was really there.
My fear was not only of losing control but also of what I would find if I looked.

Their polarity creates the tension that keeps the Universe expanding.

We need look no further than our own bodies though, to see how they assist us, and through the most minute and simple of creatures – germs. Without these germs in our digestive system we could not absorb food.
Ever wondered why women live longer? Or why men pass away sooner? I did. After contemplating this for a while I realised that women love the body lot more than men do. Sure men love the female bodies a lot, but do they love their own body though? From my own experience men use the body, use it hard with little forgiveness. We work hard, play hard love hard and everything we do is hard. In other words we really abuse our body. I have found amazing thing, I said sorry to my own body, I said I love you to my own body and asked it to forgive me for the years of abuse. I feel better now in my body, it loves me back.
Why is it so? The body is composed of myriads of cells and atoms and particles in the old physics. It is composed of uncounted many individual consciousness. They all are the sum of what we call the body. If we disregard any of the individual beings, no matter how small and “insignificant” we are disregarding what we call god, or as James name it Atman. This of course must have an effect on the sum of the individual parts, us the soul. And so soul suffers neglect and lack of love.
This is my view on the so called body and its importance for the ever evolving consciousness.

Namaste Paul

It’s been written that evolution is a process of ‘God perfecting His/Her perfection’. What does this mean?

This is my explanation.

Imagine having no input of data whatsoever? How would it be possible to study your own nature? This is where Source was in the ‘beginning’.

Source therefore created a mirror image in which to examine ITSELF. This mirror image splintered into many separate consciousnesses which took many forms. This was Creation.

The splintered consciousness had free will, enabling every possibility to be fulfilled. This included what we would see as Darkness or Evil.

The dramas being played out allow Source to make the judgment, ‘This is what I AM!’….or ‘This is what I AM NOT!

In this way Source is able to know Itself.

Dr Martin Evidson, a research consultant from department of forensic pathology at Sheffield University shows that the English people are mostly Celtic in their ancestry. It was believed the English were of Anglo-Saxon in their origin. Through genetic study , it seems that there may not have been a mass invasion of the Anglo-Saxons after all. This was reported in The Times (20th April 1997) that instead of massive invasion by the Anglo_Saxons, the Germanic settlers came only in small numbers leaving most of the native Celtic-speaking population undisturbed.

If this is the fact then the whole concept of British history takes another meaning.
Just another little curiosity here. On Pope Gregory suggestion many of the "pagan" Celtic gods were incorporated into Christianity. For instance the eve of
Samhain on first of November became the Halloween, the day of all Souls.
Celtic festival of Imbolc on the first of February was Christianised to Candlemans day.It originally represented the end of winter and increasing of daylight.
Easter was originally the Spring Equinox festival calculated by the first full moon occurring around 21st of March.
And another little gem, The Druid initiated priests called Beird, were the teachers of ancient wisdom and the most highly initiated were named Merlin.

Well I thought you people would like to know.
Namaste Paul

I’m writing here about something of which I do not have first hand knowledge, but the theory fits exactly as I see it, with quantum theory, and also with metaphysical teachings regarding the makeup and consciousness of our bodies.

I intend to write as fact, but I have no direct verification.

What I want to talk about is the merkabah. For people not familiar with this term, the merkabah is an energy field. It can be any size, and further merkabahs can develop out of it. Indeed, the whole of our universe is said to be one huge merkabah which is interlaced with many many more sub-merkabahs. These merkabahs are galaxies, stars, planets, humans, animals, plants, right down to single cells.

Our bodies are made up of million of merkabahs, and there is a hierarchy, beginning with us, the soul. Then there are the brain, the bones, the various organs, the skin etc. These are broken down into further merkabahs, right down to cells, which have consciousness, and are the ‘bodies’ of elementals. In other words, our bodies are micro universes in themselves, containing mass consciousness in addition to our own. This gels perfectly with the saying ‘Man, know thyself, and thou shalt know God and the universe.’

God (Source) is the ultimate merkabah from which all the others sprang.

We know that solid matter is an illusion. Atoms are held together by magnetic attraction but there are huge spaces between them that can be seen with a microscope. What matter is, is in fact, many merkabahs layered together, which gives the impression of something solid.

Another factor with the merkabah, is that how it appears subjectively, will depend on the consciousness of the observer, and the merkabah itself. The higher the consciousness, the more of the form will be seen. Lower consciousness will simply see a glowing ball, which is the energy field, when the merkabah is a higher dimensional life form.

The glowing balls of light are a common form of UFO. Many people have seen them. They are merkabahs, which are at present, beyond human consciousness to see clearly, so they appear as a ball of light.

This is a very exciting time, because we are gradually becoming aware that there are many types of life form besides ourselves.

Some time ago I blogged about the fact that the 'Black Death' in 14th century Europe coincided with the '100 years war', in which cannons and gunpowder were used for the first time on that continent. A smaller outbreak occurred in South-East Asia during the intensive bombing campaign of the Vietnam war there. This is not an accident.

What is an explosion? Technically it appears that an explosion creates a kind of reverse vacuum which causes physical matter to be sucked outwards. However, this does not just affect OUR reality. It can create a portal which will suck life forms from adjacent realities. The portal quickly closes again and those life forms are trapped in OUR reality. They then go on to survive as best they can and the Black Death was one of the results.

Explosions do not just occur in war zones. Mining Companies use them all the time. Some of today's most basic materials are obtained by the initial use of explosives, but it is clear that we on this planet cannot go on in ignorance damaging our neighboring Realities. The results of our past actions are clear, two thirds of the 14th century Europeans perished in the plague. Many of todays diseases are undoubtedly coming from the same source.

What can we do? We can be AWARE of what is taking place and send our goodwill to those life-forms that are being dragged into our reality, and we can ask our guides to help them back home. Even just being aware will feed into the collective unconscious, and perhaps through us and others, enlightenment about what is transpiring will come.

After enlightenment, I chop wood and carry water.

Lately, I’ve been unable to achieve a peak experience during meditation. My awakening to enlightenment was once filled with amazing revelations I would have never thought of during egoic consciousness. Am I now reduced to chopping wood and carrying water?

Unity’s silent voice spoke, “You are quietly living all those amazing revelations, thus you are enlightened and spiritually advancing. Ego, the great creator of fear-based thinking, is venting its rage to remain the champion of solving the problems it creates. Be compassionate and let it vent, for it is in the final throes of its being, before we absorb it into unity.”

And then I remembered my very first revelation: Learning to be happy must involve the essence of being happy…think positive and be happy.

What a different world I live in today from the world of my past. I am not talking about technology. I am talking about the level of control on my life or rather the loss of freedoms from my control.

When I came to New Zealand with my parents as a young boy of nine I arrived on a British (UK) passport. About 14 years later while returning from Overseas (Singapore) with the NZ air force I was given a New Zealand Passport. I then and now have dual citizenship (UK & NZ).

Contrast that immigration policy with my experience last month when returning to live in New Zealand as a citizen and returning resident seeking residence for my Thai partner.

I applied for Partner–Support Visa for a period in excess of 2 years for my Thai partner with whom I have co-habitated for the past 8 years in Bangkok, Thailand prior to our departure. My partner would like to become a New Zealand resident and eventually Citizen.

First she had to do a full general Medical.

Second she had to have a chest x-ray for TB.

Third she had to have a Police Clearance.

Fourth there was the inevitable Fee, on top of the cost of the above requirements.

After all this was accomplished complete with a large amount of evidence of co-habitation and financial support on my part she was granted a 9 month visitor visa and told to further her Resident Visa application in NZ.

We arrived in NZ on 17 March and started the process to apply for a resident visa so she could remain living with me as my partner (De-facto wife) here in NZ.

First she needed to open a bank account but that required an IRD number (IRS for Americans) so off to IRD office to be told that she needed to open a Bank Account at certain co-operating banks. This was to provide evidence of her residential address. So she opened a bank account in her name at a bank other than mine (Not a co-operating bank) and then back to IRD to get a Tax number (21 days to process).

Now armed with an IRD number and a bank account and a residential address we headed for the nearest Immigration office approximately 105 Kilometres from where we live.

At the Immigration Office we were given another set of forms for Partner Support application and told to fill them out, provide the required documentation and bring/send them to that office for processing. Process time up to 3 months and a fee of a further $930 NZD!

And here is what she must comply with to process the application further:
1.	A fully completed and Signed Resident Application Form (INZ 1000)
2.	Current Passports
3.	Two passport sized Photographs for the applicant(s)
4.	Full Birth Certificate that include Mother’s and father’s names.
5.	5.Application Fee ($930NZD)
6.	Evidence of her Partner’s New Zealand Residence or Citizenship
7.	Other evidence specified below for particular application types
Please note:
1.	Only original documents or certified copies will be accepted.
2.	Provide Translations of all documents that are not in English. These must be translated by an INZ approved translation Service.
Please note that if your application is successful you will be required to pay a migrant levy.
Please also note that throughout the processing of your residency application you must remain on a valid visa at all times whist in New Zealand.

This fresh application is in addition to a similarly worded application we filed in Bangkok before leaving for New Zealand.
The Migrant Levy depends on where she is applying from:

Example 1:
A citizen of the United States of America physically present in New Zealand applying for a residence class visa under the Skilled Migrant Category pays NZ$1,810. Because the applicant is in New Zealand, they pay the fee in column A.
Example 2:
A Fijian citizen living in China applying for a residence class visa under the Skilled Migrant Category. The applicant applies to the office in Beijing, but the applicant holds Fijian citizenship so pays a fee equivalent to NZ$1,550 (Column B, Pacific/Australia).

Example 3:
A British citizen living in Australia applying for a residence class visa under the Skilled Migrant Category. The applicant applies to
the office in Sydney, but the applicant holds British citizenship so pays a fee equivalent to
NZ$2,400 (Column C/Rest of the world)

Example 4:
An Indian citizen living in London applying
for a residence class visa under the Skilled
Migrant Category. The applicant applies to the London office, but the applicant holds Indian citizenship so pays a fee equivalent to
NZ$2,400 (Column C/Rest of the world).

Compare this process to the one I went through to become a NZ Resident/Citizen in the mid 19602s. Get the picture? The difference?

I am from UK my partner is from Thailand. What did the British have to do to claim NZ for their own from the Indigenous Maori?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Zealander_British

What a world the few are creating for the many

I think it was Stan who wrote that because there is no resistance in space a craft need not bank, it can turn on a dime.

Why DO aircraft bank? In many ways a plane is like a boat. To steer the thing the pilot operates the rudder, same as a ship, and it makes a wide turn. They tip the inner wing to counter the centrifugal force of the turn.

Now picture the Harrier jump jet? It’s engines can turn to be positioned downwards for a vertical takeoff. Now imagine if the engines could be turned sideways? The craft could suddenly go sideways without banking.

Just a minute though, the shape from that angle is all wrong to go forwards!

What shape would be right? A Saucer!

So now we know how they can turn on a dime! The question is, WHAT is holding them up in the sky? They have no wings, and it’s been reported that some of these things are the size of a city!

How did the Egyptians build the Great Pyramid? How was Stonehenge erected! All these things point to one conclusion. There has to be some way of neutralizing what we refer to as gravity, and bearing in mind how long this must have been going on, I suspect that at least one device is what’s termed as magick! Nothing supernatural about it if you know what you’re doing. Uri Geller claims no special powers, and I myself have moved small objects simply using my will. I would say that Magick is an old form of science that most of us have forgotten, or had repressed from our souls by conventional religion!

In the words of an old T Rex song…

Catch a bright star and a place it on your fore-head
Say a few spells and there you go
Take a black cat
Sit it on your shoulder
And in the morning you'll know ALL you know.

An article in ‘Time’ indicates that visible matter and dark matter make up only 32% of the universe. The rest is ‘dark ENERGY’, which pulls things apart, as dark matter pulls them together.

The nature of gravity is now seen as something entirely different from Newton’s time. Heavenly bodies cause space to curve. It is pretty much the same as the human aura in some respects. The energy field of the Sun extends out and contains the planets, whose rate of momentum is just enough to keep them orbiting without leaving the energy field.

Space seems more like a fabric than anything, since it moulds its way around bodies. It may also be the only permanent thing in existence if the universe is cyclical in expanding and contracting.

The oddest thing of all, is that the Universe is expanding at a linear rate. The distance between everything remains proportional. This is one of the things that causes me to doubt the validity of ‘Big Bang’. In an explosion, parts reach a certain speed and then decay. Now it can certainly be argued that space offers no resistance to cause decay, but this would not account for things actually moving FASTER now than they did initially. This seems to be where ‘Dark Energy’ comes in, but we still have no idea how it works.
